Traveling to Toledo
The easiest way to get to Toledo is from Madrid. The Spanish transportation system is quite well centralized, so public transport is not only a viable option but often, especially in the case of Toledo, preferable to driving or flying. There are three basic ways to reach Toledo from Madrid: bus, train, and car.
RENFE trains leave from Madrid's Atocha every hour rom 6:45 AM to 8:45 PM. Atocha is reachable on Madrid metro by taking line 1, the light blue line, to Atocha Renfe (note that it is NOT simply 'Atocha'). All cabs know this station. Trains from Toledo to Madrid start at 7 AM and run until 9 PM. From the train station you can walk uphill to the city, or take the bus. Trains can be expected to take about 2 hours to reach Toledo. However, there are two express trains every day that make the trip in one hour. A one-way ticket will cost you about 5 Euros.

Buses are the simplest method of getting to Toledo. A bus leaves every half hour from Madrid's Estaci—n Sur de Autobuses, starting at 6:30 AM and going till 10 PM. The trip takes between 45 minutes and 1 hour 20 minutes. One way fare is only 3.70 Euros. All cabs know the station. The buses that leave on the hour generally travel faster than the buses that leave on the half-hour. You can find the Estaci—n Sur de Autobuses in Madrid by taking line 6, the gray line, the Circular, to the stop MŽndez Alvaro. Once having reached Toledo by bus, you will be at the Estaci—n Sur de Autobuses at the foot of the city. It's about a half hour to twenty minute pleasant walk uphill to the city center, or you can catch either bus 5 or 6 which for about 1 Euro will take you directly to Plaza de Zocodover.
